Jason Momoa, born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, has a diverse heritage. His father is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan descent, while his mother, originally from Iowa, has German, Irish, and Native American roots. Raised by his mother in Norwalk, Iowa, Jason moved to Hawaii after high school and landed a leading role in the TV series Baywatch Hawaii.
Following his time on Baywatch, Jason traveled the world before settling in Los Angeles in 2001 to pursue an acting career. He gained popularity as "Ronon Dex" in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis after a brief stint on the TV series North Shore in 2004. In 2010, he played Khal Drogo in the Emmy-nominated HBO series Game of Thrones, impressing producers with a traditional Maori war dance called the Haka during his audition.
In 2011, Momoa took on the iconic role of Conan the Barbarian, diverging from the 1982 film interpretation. Beyond acting, Jason runs a production company called Pride of Gypsies, expanding his career into filmmaking. He has directed short films and is working on his feature film debut, Road to Paloma (2014), based on his developed series of stories known as the Brown Bag Diaries: Ridin' the Blinds in B Minor (2010).
Living with his wife, actress Lisa Bonet, Jason is a proud father to two children, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf.
