Dune: Part Two Review
Dune: Part Two, which faced a delay of almost six months, is shaping up to be well worth the wait, according to director Denis Villeneuve. In a sneak peek at the 2024 issue of Total Film, Villeneuve assures fans that the sequel will be a more action-packed and robust experience compared to the first installment in 2021.
The director explains that while the initial movie focused on a young man exploring a new planet and culture, the upcoming second part is geared towards being more of an action film with increased intensity. To achieve this, Villeneuve and cinematographer Greig Fraser exclusively used IMAX cameras for 100% of Dune: Part Two, a significant upgrade from the 35-40% utilization in Part One. This decision was crucial, especially for capturing the colossal worm-riding sequences that play a significant role in the film.
Villeneuve highlights one of the technically complex scenes involving Paul's first ride on a sandworm, calling it one of the most challenging moments in his career. The commitment to IMAX technology is evident in the pursuit of delivering a visually stunning and immersive experience.
Returning to the cast are familiar faces like Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Rebecca Ferguson. Joining them are new additions such as Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Austin Butler, who take on the role of the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.
Dune: Part Two is slated for release on March 1, 2024. For more in-depth coverage, grab a copy of the December 7th issue of Total Film, which promises exclusive insights into the biggest film releases of the upcoming year.
