THE LOST TALISMAN (2023) REVIEW

In the movie, Dr. Cheon (played by Gang Dong-won) and his tech assistant Inbae (played by Lee Dong-hwi) visit a small village. They are approached by Yoo-kyung (played by Esom), a young woman seeking Dr. Cheon's Shamanistic powers to help her family. Initially hesitant, the promise of payment brings them together. They investigate the supposed possession of Yoo-kyung's younger sister, only to discover a reanimated spirit seeking revenge. Dr. Cheon and Inbae must stop the entity before it fulfills its mission.

A new South Korean fantasy/horror genre effort.

The film is enjoyable, thanks to the director's clever setup. Dr. Cheon, initially portrayed as a fake shaman, turns out to have genuine supernatural skills. The dynamic between Dr. Cheon and Inbae suggests a business built on duping people but evolves into a genuine and profitable venture when faced with a real supernatural threat. The family connection between Dr. Cheon and his deceased father, both skilled shamans, adds depth to the story. [THE LOST TALISMAN]

THE LOST TALISMAN (2023) REVIEW

The movie presents intriguing and chilling encounters, including an exorcism attempt and haunted house-style sequences. The CGI, though a bit cheesy, enhances the spectacle of these supernatural scenes. The film effectively blends comedy and discovery, particularly delving into Dr. Cheon's past.

However, the final half of the film becomes slightly convoluted with numerous revelations, leading to a rushed tempo. Additionally, the overuse of CGI, while necessary for the spectacle, might feel a bit low-budget. [THE LOST TALISMAN]

THE LOST TALISMAN (2023) REVIEW

Despite these issues, “Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman” offers an enjoyable genre experience. It may not break new ground, but it's worth a watch for fans of this genre or those curious about it.
